Update: I’m told now that 70% of casualties in the Ukraine-Russia war are caused by drones, mostly very small kamikaze drones + bomber drones. Ukraine and Russia are aiming to produce millions of such drones next year.
Also, they are now experimenting with stuff like this. A WW2-style fighter plane complete with cockpit and front-facing guns for dogfighting. Except it’s tiny and has a little camera on a turret in the cockpit.
Other metrics also point to drone-dominated and C&C dominated war. E.g. towed artillery is too vulnerable to counterbattery fire, and modern mobile artillery like CAESAR must use “shoot and scoot” tactics—it can fire 6 shells within two minutes of stopping and vacate before its last shell lands. But now drones attack them while moving too.
