That’s not what the paper says. It says that 10% of people with the flu or a broken bone in 2020 are getting diagnosed. It doesn’t say how many people with the flu or a broken bone were diagnosed in 2019, nor how many people without any other reason to go to the doctor in 2020.
Ah, whoops. Generally the flu doesn’t seem like it should cause depression that much, but it presumably should have some effect, especially when people worry they have Covid-19 instead. I’ll think about this more.
I edited the original after looking at the paper. It’s a RR of 1.65 for anyone who got care at all versus Covid-19, which is… I think somewhat less scary but most certainly not reassuring.
