Both “I” and “me” are referencing the same thing. So the question “Why am I me?” is similar to “Why 1=1?” By definition. It’s just a tautology but it feels like there is something more to it due to conflict between different models people use.
I completely agree about anthropic reasoning. It’s indeed based on the assumption that we are randomly selected from a distribution. And all the weird cases, as far as I understand, happen when this assumption is wrong.
