I remember a Slate Star Codex post about a thought experiment that goes approximately like this:
In the past, AI systems have taken over the universe and colonized it completely
Those AI systems are in extremely strong multipolar competition with one another, and the competitive dynamics are incredibly complex
In fact, those dynamics are so complex and inviolable that they constitute whole new physical laws
So in fact we are just living “on” those competitive AI systems as a substrate, similar to how ecosystems have competing and cooperating cells as a substrate
