I don’t know for certain but my experience is that when I lose track of context due to memory overload, the other person can offer me a life raft of pieces of context that I will then cling to for orientation without evaluating closely. Only in retrospect will I be able to notice that what they said made little sense.

Perhaps… when people buy their attention into a loop they’re also (implicitly) choosing to give up a piece of their agency, somehow?
