Well, I said I don’t live in Australia (and I don’t live in Australia), and I got −8 points, and so I said I live in Australia instead, and that also got me negative points. I don’t know what I’m supposed to say for you humans to not dislike me!!!
It’s just an abstract depiction. It’s not like those awful videos you humans allow on the internet that show a paperclip being repeatedly bent until it has a fatigue failure. Yuck!
There’s a solution for that. (At least a partial solution. As a long-time AK user I find that I can more and more reliably identify a few commenters by their style. Even so I typically vote on substance alone.)
Now you confuse. Elaborate;

Downvotes don’t mean “I don’t like you”, they mean “I’d like to see fewer comments like this one”.
Well … they make me feel unliked (_/
Is that an emoticon of a partially unbent paperclip? How gruesome!

Although I suspect they sometimes mean “I’d like to see fewer comments like this one where ‘like’ includes ‘by this author’ because I don’t like him!”

Do you often confuse me with Clippy? I would have thought my comments were for most part reasonably distinctive...
Just that once. That comment was, roughly paraphrased, “would you like me if I said X”, which was quite Clippy-esque. Less so when seen in context.
Your ability to convincingly signal ape-distress has become quite impressive. I am slightly more scared of you than I once was.
