There should be a clear distinction between asking 101-level things, being unaware of 101-level things, and criticising 101-level things. Criticising-while-aware is very valuable, being unaware is sometimes fine (not everything is really relevant, and an unaware frame takes a fresh look). Passively asking things that could’ve been learned from standard introductions might need to happen in a different place, though I don’t currently notice it on LW with any regularity.
It’s not overwhelming yet, but I feel like I am seeing a real increase in users asking questions and sharing ideas of things that are addressed in standard intros. In the last week or so we started blocking first posts and comments that are strongly in this category (you’ll soon be able to see them in the Rejected Content section of the site) and redirecting people to the Intro AI Open threads.

Strong agree about the distinction.
