I’m persistently confused by the expectation that science fiction be optimistic. It seems like there is a lot of space for exploring the failure modes of complex systems, and now the public at large has achieved a sense of this being an important type of problem, so I find it unsurprising people consume a lot of fiction which validates this sense.
Wanted: a way to show our heroes contributing to the systemic solution of a complex problem, in a way which forms a satisfying narrative.
