I definitely agree with you that we should avoid IQ testing.
I generally dislike the names “Hard” and “Easy”, but I don’t have anything better at the moment. Maybe “Beginner” and … “Intermediate”? “Experienced”? I’m not sure.
Also, a minor point. About this:
Person A in a debate explains a belief but it’s not well-supported. Their opponent, person B, says they’re an idiot. What is this an example of?
A. Attacking the person, a great way to really nail your opponent in an argument.
B. Attacking the person, a great way to totally fail in debate because you’re not even attacking their ideas.
I understand what you were trying to do with that, but if we’re being accurate, both of those answers are correct.
Okay I will reword the question, thanks for pointing that out.
I don’t know what names would be best. I wonder whether the word “Advanced” will put people off and sound elitist. Using the words “Easy” and “Hard” implies that the people in the “Hard” area are choosing to challenge themselves and are putting in more effort to do so. “Beginner” implies that after a while you’re supposed to go to the other forum, when really, everyone learns at their own pace and some people may just prefer for it to be easy. Maybe you don’t like the words because they’re a little bit cute, as if it were a game? Maybe fancier words like “Challenging” or “Difficult” would appeal more?

I think it would prime people that this is something game-like.
