Why? This isn’t obvious to me. It seems plausible that we could develop the technology to directly repair bodies without a singularity. Cryonics being used for uploading seems likely to only occur in a singularity situation, but even then it seems sufficiently far off that it isn’t clear.
I think the nearest deadline is our own lifespans. FAI is no good if you’re dead before it comes along. Also cryonics requires fast economic growth.
