Was weird not to hear of temporal motivation theory in a post about modeling motivation. it’s the most successful model in the literature to date (as far as i know), it was developed by piers steel, he wrote about it in his book the procrastination equation, which Luke made a summery of in this post.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t include them in a single post of reasonable length. Temporal motivation theory / the procrastination equation will feature in the eventual Part 2 to this post.
It seems piers steel has even went beyond TMT in motivation modeling, and also has something which he calls “Goal Phase System (GPS)”. it is talked about in this paper—The Building Blocks of Motivation
