What do you think about using visualizations for giving “rational” advice in a compact form?
Case in point: I just stumbled over relationtips by informationisbeautiful and thought: That is nice.
This also reminds me of the efficiency of visual presentation explained in The Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Tufte.
And I wonder how I might quote these in the Quotes Thread...
Modern “infographics” like those by informationisbeautiful are extremely often terrible in exactly the ways that Tufte warns against. They are often beautiful, but rarely excel at their original purpose of displaying data.
I agree what many infographics (the contraction is the first hint) are often more beautiful than informational.
But yours was a general remark. Did you mean it to imply that the idea isn’t good or just my particular example?
I think that good graphics illustrating some point about rationality would be a really cool thing to have in the quotes thread.
