It was NOT rational. It was declared rational. As “we are not going to pursue profit, but we will instead drop the prices, as the socialism is going to be much more rational system”.
And many, many more such paroles. Several might be even true.
The social democrats of today still want some of those “rationalizations” to implement. The problem is, the world doesn’t operate on such rationales.
And this Effective Altruism looks similar to me.. If one wants “to do good” for others, he should invest his money wisely. He should employ people, he should establish new businesses with those less fortunate people.
Giving something for nothing is not a very good idea! But using your powers for others to give something for nothing … is a bad idea. In the name of self-perceived rationality—it’s even worse.
I wrote to align with reality, thus accept facts fully, which includes the uncertainty of facts. There is no alignment with reality in any of what you’ve said in comparison to mine, so strawman at best.

You’re implying that “doing good” effectively couldn’t be of investing, employing or establishing businesses. It’s independent of a method as long as it is effective in the context of effective altruistic actions. It makes no difference as long as it’s the most effective with positive expected value.
