Would an opt out option in your settings be enough to satisfy you? As well as an additional rss feed that did not include meetups?
That way people can opt-out rather then requiring people to opt in to receive meetup notifications.

Do the twitch go at some harmonic with your heart beat? I have had something similar with eyelids, leg, neck, and other places twitch with the blood flow. More likely to happen after prolonged stress for myself. The solution for myself is to relax my muscles and modify my heart rate, usually with deep breaths.
More significantly it provided a method of allowing the community as a whole condem or reward patterns of thought/expression.
Convincing people who can afford cryonics has a relatively straightforward solution, while decreasing the cost of cryonics is a complex technical and economic challenge. The fastest way to sign people up seems to be to convince the people who can already afford it. That does not mean though that effort should not be applied to the long term goal of lowering the cost though.
I think a better test would be to teach people prone to developing schizophrenia and then see if it help with those that did develop schizophrenia. It would be much easier to teach rationality before the onset of schizophrenia to boot.

Let me tell you what I currently imagine and then you can correct for incorrect or missing portions.
Body language:
I image some one giving a lecture with slides first talking about the importance of body language and providing evidence, anecdote, and personal anecdote. The lecture would then move on to showing different body postures and the use different common body languages. The might lecturer mimic some specific body language and asking the audience what it means. Then moving on to one on one instruction while the people observe. Multiple groups will be formed if there are enough instructors. A participate would be asked to role play an encounter and then that encounter would be critiqued/discussed and suggestions would be made. Observes would be encouraged to ask questions offer insight that would be vetted to help solidify a common terminology and understanding.
For fashion I would imagine something similar to the above though without props it would be harder to go as in depth. Maybe weave this into a trip into town and a visit to cloths stores?
Other then anecdotes on building culture from the top down I don’t have a clear idea of what business skills would be taught or how they would be taught. Maybe where to go to get more resources? Information on Loans, angle investors, venture capitalists?

I came back to ask a similar question. I would not call the issue of choosing cryonics more then a hack. I think it is the difference is that a hacker is often some one who has optimized well in a narrow area while a munchkin will look at the whole system and optimize it and constantly look for new rules to exploit. The difference I see EY drawing is one of local optimization verses global optimization(or at least an attempting to).

Like Constant I have not noticed any retention problems at increased playback speeds.
To increase the speed at which you comprehend I recommend using a program that can increment the speed by 10% at a time that way you can ease your way to 2-4 times speed.
Knowing how to regenerate knowledge does not mean that you only store the information in it seed/compressed form. However if you need the room for new information you can do away with the flat storage and keep the seed form, knowing that you can regenerate it at will.

I was trying to express in my post that the extra efficiency gained from a switch to quantum computers only matters when it makes the simulation practical rather impractical with the current resources. This transition would only happen if the brain used quantum algorithms with a fundamental advantage over classical computing, which I assigned a low probability to. Meaning that a QM computer would probably not be necessary.
It sounds like we agree in conclusion but are failing to comunicate some details or disagree on some details.

From your post I thought you were expressing that at one point you reacted to gay affection similar to what he described and similarly thought that you could not self modify. You now know that you can so it makes sense to spread the news and method to someone who thinks they can not(who would probably want to if they could) and might be in a similar position you once were and might apply the same solution. Of course maybe Yvain is not in a similar situation and your solution would not apply. You might know more, but there is a better chance that the two experiences do no overlap.
My response comes from the use of “can’t self-modify” rather then “can’t self-modify due to lack of time/resources,” “my continuing efforts have not yet borne fruit,” “I have tried all of my ideas and I am seek new ones,” “other projects consume my time and it is not currently worthwhile to pursue,” and etc. I have seen many people put road blocks in front of themselves by saying “can’t” which often reenforces the belief in “can’t” rather then staying cognizant of the conditions that make something unworthy of investment.
It may be cheeky to assume that you know weather this particular self modification is worth the resource use to Yvain, but it is not cheeky ask for more details(which are only for Yvain to share at his discretion) or offer personal experiences that Yvain may glen some insight or solution from.
I agree. When I hear people say the equivalent of “I can’t self-modify” I always want to ask “what have you tried so far,” and “how long have tried for.” Normally that answer is not much(only a few approaches) and not very long. It often comes from lack of incentives and a belief equivalent to “thats just the way I am.”
I have often remarked to people that their conscious self is not the dictator of their own mind and at best only has a vote. Most react with confusion and denial with only an ocasional “of course.” Thank you for introducing to me the research performed in the area.
What techniques/methodologies do you use to divide techniques you approve of and those you disapprove? Stepping through this process with one of the techniques in the OP’s post would clear up much of why you would leave lesswrong if they became prominent.
