Summary of the Twelve Virtues of Rationality by Eliezer Yudkowsky
Curiosity—a burning itch to know
Relinquishment—“That which can be destroyed by the truth should be.”—P. C. Hodgell
Lightness—surrender to the truth as quickly as you can
Evenness—do not seek to argue for one side or another, for if you knew your destination, you would already be there
Argument—strive for exact honesty and seek a test that lets reality judge between you
Empiricism—knowledge comes from observation and prediction ⇒ manifests in the experiences you anticipate
Simplicity—“Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”—Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Humility—take specific actions in anticipation of your own errors
Perfectionism—the more errors you correct in yourself, the more you notice
Precision—the narrowest statements slice deepest
Scholarship—study many sciences such as evolutionary psychology, heuristics and biases, social psychology, probability theory, decision theory and others
Intention—strike naturally and with purpose
