Telling someone “Don’t be a dick” is usually a dick-move — especially if it’s true. It upsets the other person and it reduces the chance that they’ll listen to what you say.
I think it’s a good essay—that’s why I want to refer people to it.

So, if it’s not useful for dicks, then why are you interested? I doubt it’s a useful prophylactic against becoming a dick.
