The expectation of small numbers of long comments instead of large numbers of short comments doesn’t fit with my experience of how productive/efficient discourse happens. LW culture expects posts to be referenced forever and it’s hard to write for the ages. It’s also hard to write for a general audience of unknown composition and hard to trust such an audience not to vote and comment badly in a way that will tax your future attention.
