The internet should be full of experiments in how humans can interact
Ok, just want to take this opportunity to talk about something I would like. I would like the idea to poll people from around the world, in their native language, in a balanced and fair way that didn’t privilege particular countries or economic classes. I would be willing to pay $2-5 for a poll consisting of a handful of reasonably easy to answer questions. I want to know about things like: the common needs and desires of people in various places and economic situations, their moral intuitions on various topics, their hopes for the future and visions of a better world.
I also think it would be interesting to be able to have an LLM-based program give an interactive interview, and maybe find out interesting things I hadn’t thought to ask.
I’d like to turn these anonymized responses into reports of human experience and post them as a sort of searchable newsfeed somewhere like Our World in Data. Who needs what where? Who hopes for what?
Seems like this is something that our technological advances should enable.
