Aligned AGI means people getting more of what they want. We’ll figure out where to get challenge and fulfillment.
People will have more friends, not less, once we have more time for them, and more wisdom about how to get and keep them. And we will still want human support and advice, even if machines can do it better.
People who want to learn skills and knowledge will still do that, and create spaces to compete and show them off. I’m thinking of the many competitions that already happen with rules about not getting outside help.
Most humans have always lived their lives knowing they’ll never be the best at anything or accomplish anything significant on a large scale. Many of them still find happiness in small projects and personal connections.
In the long term, if alignment is right, we’ll have something as marvelous as hinted in Richard Ngo’s The Soul Key.
