The idea that voting is irrational needs to be set against the observation, common amongst critics of democracy, that blocks of people in a similar position, seem to vote for nice things for themselves whether tax cuts or welfare hikes. Co-ordinated voting is rational if co-ordination is cheap enough.
Finding partners to co-ordinate with isn’t difficult if you belong to some large group such as “welfare claimants”, “business owners”, “parents”, etc. Looking at it in terms of x-risk obscures some very obvious common-sense aspects.
