Reading this, I get the sense the thing in general you don’t like isn’t a particular kind of ritual, but probably being deceived or coerced, and rituals that feel deceptive (because they lie about their origin) or coercive (because you are made to do them for purposes that are either deceptive or try to get you to be deceived) just happen to get swept up as part of this general pattern. Curious if that seems right or if there’s something particular about rituals that sets them apart from other similar things operating the same way?
