Today’s analog to eugenics, lobotomy and “recovered memories” seems extremely obvious to me: transgenderism, especially in its manifestations as puberty blockers and “reassignment” surgery applied to prepubescent children who are not true morphogenetic intersexes.
We are living through an atrocity justified by a weirdly Gnostic view of human identity, and I expect the eventual reckoning to be terrible.
reassignment” surgery applied to prepubescent children
This is not a thing that happens.
Late edit:
Apparently the simple statement of fact above isn’t sufficient to keep people from upvoting the parent, even though the contrary, easily checked false assertion forms the core of the parent and the basis of its overwrought language.
So I’ll get a bit more detailed about the US and most of the rest of the world.
“Puberty blockers” are given only at puberty, not before. They’re apparently totally reversible (they are not the same thing as hormone therapy).
Surgery is not generally available to anybody under the age of 18, and is never available to “prepubescent children”. In the unlikely event that anybody can find even one case of this, it’s going to be an outlier that’s mostly interesting because it’s an outlier.
The claimed “atrocity” isn’t happening at all. It’s not a matter of disagreement about how good or bad it is; it’s simply not going on, period.
