When somebody picks my pocket, I’m not gonna be chasing them down so I can figure out whether he feels like he’s a thief deep down in his heart. I’m going to be chasing him down so I can get my wallet back.

I’m not sure I get this. Could you explain, please?
Straightforward consequentialism.
If you hurt someone in an easily avoidable way, they’ll respond to the hurt and not to what’s in your heart.
I could go on a bit longer, but I’m drunk and this seems like plenty.
Can we really hold someone responsible if he had no choice and his brain forced him to steal?
Edit: Missed the “you” in Ezekiel’s question; sorry.
I think it’s just about pragmatism vs. philosophical reasoning or Deep Wisdom.
Great video, too.
