is creating a child after the right and proper fashion of creating a child. If I do not wish to be a father, I think that it is acceptable for me to avoid it; and certainly the skill to deliberately not create a child would be less than the skill to deliberately create a healthy child.
I would agree, I am not trying to create a child either. I’m trying to create brain stuff, and figure out how to hook it up to a human so that it becomes aligned to that humans brain. Admittedly it is giving more power to children, but I think the only feasible way to get adults is for humans to get power and the self-knowledge of what we are, and grow up in a painful fashion. We have been remarkably responsible with nukes, and I am willing to bet on humanity becoming more responsible as it realises how powerful it really is. You are and SIAI are good data point for this supposition.
After my degree going back 9 years or so I spent some time thinking about seedAIs of a variety of fashions, not calling them such. I could see no way for a pure SeedAI to be stable, unless it starts off perfect. To exist is to be imperfect, from everything I have learnt of the world. You always see the edited highlights of peoples ruminations, so when you see us disagree you think we have not spent time on it.
That is also probably part of why I don’t want to be in the future, I see it as needing us to be adults and my poor simian brain is not suited to perpetual responsibility or willing to change to be so.
