My brother had a swing dance unit in middle school and he said everyone he talked to was whining and saying it was going to be awful. I asked him if he thought everyone actually believed it was going to be awful or if they were just saying that because thought it would be uncool to be reasonable and not whiny. We hypothesized that people in the uncool camp would be more likely to make fun of him if he said that he didn’t think swing dancing was going to be that bad. Also maybe they’d be less likely to be convinced because normally people who think something’s going to be awful accept reassurance that it’s not.
I think we don’t have results yet. Also his “everyone” is probably only ~10 people.
