Firstly, Queensland State Government doesn’t set the rules for Australian Borders. The Federal Government does. That tennis player is trying to enter Victoria, a different state.
That tennis player is the same tennis player that hired someone who doesn’t know our VISA rules, apparently. The same tennis player who expected our national tennis organisation to be able to organise a free pass without consulting the federal government properly. The same tennis player who tried to circumvent rules put in place that apply to everyone, and expected a special pass because of wealth.
And yes, you come to a country without the correct VISA you will be detained. Regardless of who you are. Australia is not the only country that does this. He’s lucky he’s not a refugee, because at the hands of the Australian Federal Government that detainment would be indefinite in inhumane conditions.....
They granted his exemption and then revoked it after he entered the country. Then they kept him locked up in a dirty hotel instead of just letting stay in a private residence with his other support staff. It’s a really poor opinion to think that’s ok treatment.
This is the same country that just lied to and detained the number one tennis player in the world?

I am personally very happy with the decision of not giving him a special treatment
