The levels of simulacra are also similar to the ego development stages as it explores how the ego progresses when adding more layers of societal cooperation or tension, though it does not map 1-1. For example, the diplomat at level 3 is concerned with social norms and in-group behavior, whereas the expert at level 3⁄4 may override these norms in pursuit of a different goal. From my understanding, each level in the stages below is part of a spectrum and each are meant to have an unevolved and evolved form as they progress.
