Second, try looking at various LW posts, and various prolific LW authors, and asking the question “if LW were such a monastery, which Order would this person belong to?”
The answers that came to mind for me were:
John Wentworth is a
hundred or thousand day monk
Scott Alexander is a
ten or hundred day monk
Raemon is a
hundred or thousand day monk
Eliezer is a
thousand or ten thousand day monk, but most of his published work (the sequences, HPMOR, inadequate equilibria) came from ten or hundred day subproblems
Man I am sort of tickled that I give off that vibe. (I think in practice I’m currently more like a 1 day monk, and in the world where this was more noticed-supported it might make sense for me to be a 10 day monk)
