Have you considered reading HPMOR? The first 10 chapters are a bit slow, but after ch. 20 it really takes off, and it comes highly recommended as one of the best works of science fiction ever; the kind of thing that would transform the world if it replaced Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet in most high schools.
There’s some other texts that are also pretty well-regarded for skilling up too. Scott’s blog (the codex) is like cocaine for sci-fi lovers, and the Superintelligence FAQ is currently the main resource on the current situation with AI.
My interest in AI and AI alignment has converged from multiple angles and led me here.
