Good post. I’ve been making more of an effort to deeply understand (relearning) the fundamentals of ML recently (for example, reading more papers in detail with focus and Karpathy’s videos) so that I don’t just stumble around and I have good actual grounding with the experiments I come up with.
I try to be vigilant to catch myself when I shy away from the discomfort of actually grappling with the hard material so that I can then actually push through and do it rather than shrug my shoulders and move on (and lie to myself that I’ll eventually get around to it).
