Just to be a little contrarian: sometimes arguments become acrimonious. You’ll note that the Judaean People’s Front yelled invective and insults at the People’s Front of Judaea, it wasn’t purely mutual rationalism they engaged in. An acrimonious argumentation technique is to try to lower the status of the beliefs of your interlocutor and everyone who holds them, which is a punishment.
Of course, I only say this because I want you to succeed even better at raising the sanity waterline :-)
