That solves the “talking about it” problem but not the “thinking seriously about it” problem. (What’s to keep them from just repeating “no, I don’t agree” in response to every statement I make? You can’t argue a rock into thinking anything, et cetera)
Also, from the point of view that these are relationships I’d prefer to keep, that seems like a terrible idea—I really can’t see anyone I’ve got in mind reacting positively to that.
Only pay them if they’re clearly thinking about it.
The only real problems are that you have to be able to tell the difference between them actually thinking about it and basically just pretending to, and they have to trust you to know the difference.
I wonder if it would be possible to just pay them to debate with you.
