Why wouldn’t the alliance seek to maximize their profit anyway? What gain is there in trying to punish the enemy?
It’s not an equilibrium if players can increase their profit by unilaterally switching strategies. This game might have a nicer solution that doesn’t punish so much, but I haven’t found it.
