seems like you’re inventing a new word where an old one would in principle be able to do; I see why you’d be hesitant to select an existing concept for describing the concept of something being a non-central example of its topic, but—well, non-central example seems like a fine description to me. what pays for the complexity of adding this word to my vocab?
Er. I’m … not at all sure why you’re asking a question that the essay explicitly answers, as if it’s a new question?
Certainly you’re welcome to find the answer explicitly given in the essay inadequate, but.
(“Non-central example” is a very very poor match for the concept described in the essay, by the way. Like, that’s just straightforwardly not at all what’s under discussion here (enough so that I’m genuinely baffled as to how you came to that, as an alternative proposal).)
new words are very, very, very expensive, because most people one tries to explain to won’t know the word, which makes it harder to use the concept to raise the sanity waterline in a way that can spread into the entire world’s sanity supply. people on this site should be several orders of magnitude less willing to attempt to create them. so, I came to the comments to express that opinion and challenge you to keep trying to find the matching word. I appear to have started with a choice that is a non-central example, I mean a lossy compression, I mean a bad reference, I mean a lossy reference, I think I mean a lossy reference, to what I was trying to describe. but do you see what I mean? if I were to say your word in that sentence, it would be even more of a lossy reference to the concept! I object to this word on the grounds that it is catastrophically one of itself.

Not currently expecting to do much in the way of an in-depth back-and-forth, but here’s a gesture in the direction of what my response would be:
