When I was a kid, my desktop was a mess, with files all over the place. Eventually, there were so many files on my desktop that new files literally couldn’t fit on the screen. One day that computer got infected with a virus, and when I started fresh with a new clean slate, I created a few folders that everything on the desktop would be put into—I could keep files on the desktop for a few days if I was actively using them, but I would move the files into a folder shortly afterwards, so there would never be anything on the desktop aside from those few folders, and anything that I’m actively using.
