Interesting way of putting it in terms of filters. I’ve generally thought about this kind of thing as being about fear (in a very broad sense of againstness) and draw much of my own inspiration there from talk about assumptions, preconceptions, etc. as often brought up in self-help literature. I like the image of filters, though, because it makes it pretty clear how these axia work against what we may want by making us not notice/ignore that which we would want to see.
