Nils Nilsson’s AI History: The Quest for Artificial Intelligence
I just noticed that AI pioneer and former Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) head Nils Nilsson, has published his history of AI, The Quest for Artificial Intelligence: A History of Ideas and Achievements. The book is available as a free pdf from his website, with the pay version on Amazon, with reviews.

I’m curious about the extent to which LW/OB/SIAI-style concerns about unfriendly AI are of interest in the academic AI community. This book provides one datapoint, so:
It mentions the singularity and the SIAI (p. 646-648):

I think there’s no mention of friendliness, even under other names (did anyone find one?). It’s not that such questions would be considered off-topic:
