Many people who have highly developed theories of mind seem to underestimate how much unconscious processing they are doing that is profoundly difficult for people to do who don’t have as developed theories of mind. People who are mildly on the autism spectrum in particular (generally below the threshold of diagnosis) often have a lot of difficulty with this sort of unconscious processing but can if given a lot of explicit rules or heuristics do a much better job.
