Yes. And for the record, I’ve lived in Japan for half a year now and I can’t remember a single case of Japanese people casually hugging each other or me. I’ve had other pleasant things done to me, so maybe it’s just that they really don’t have hugging in their standard set of social responses.
Why did the hug feel 100% fake to you? Do you think the other Japanese people give less fake hugs?
I generally know that Japan isn’t too big on hugging as a culture, so I wonder whether very many Japanese people would be very skilled at this.
