I agree that we currently know almost nothing about how our working memory works, which makes me wonder: do you think artificial intelligence researchers need to create other learning models or deepen their knowledge of how our memory works? As for the percentage about the probabilities of having that knowledge by 2050, it seems a bit hasty to me, although I understand that our knowledge is growing exponentially based on our tools and knowledge, we will not be thinking about how we were solving problems or researching in 2022 when we are in 2030 or more.
Yes, I think we certainly need to deepen our knowledge of how our memory works. Our current amount of investments in the topic is pathetic. While I’m not going to speculate why that’s the case, suffic to say it’s much less than that in the 60s and 70s, as measured by results produced. Besides the work by Mozer and colleagues described in this essay, Hopfield Networks is another rare time-tested insight that we got. However, it’s still unknown how it can be complemented with the rest of AI, despite it being discovered 50 years ago.
