Several people gave versions of ‘have you considered violence or otherwise going outside the law?’ and my answer is no. While the dangers here are real, they are not at anything like the levels that would potentially justify such actions.
There are NO levels that would potentially justify violent or illegal action (idk about grey-area legality like unenforced laws).
The good from people doing legal actions will always outweigh any hypothetical good from people doing illegal actions. And illegal actions by any fringe group have a high probability of getting the whole enchilada marginalized or even persecuted. Using violence to deter military institutions from doing what they want is classified as terrorism under most international definitions, and we all know how that goes.
Then a few days later all discussion of it seemed to vanish. It wasn’t that everyone suddenly came to an agreement to move on. All sides simply decided that this was no longer the Current Thing. See the section for further discussion.
I read that section, and indeed the entire newsletter, and didn’t see any Further Discussion. Which was pretty disappointing, since that sort of thing often happens on Friday nights (which is when the largest numbers of people ignore news) on Chinese social media and I know a lot about it.
