Tomorrow, Lily and I will be leading a Kids
Contra Jam at
NEFFA (2pm in the
Sudbury room!). Weβll be playing off of
Lilyβs tune list, but
someone was asking about chords. I decided to have a go at writing
out the simplest acceptable chords for each of the tunes weβre
planning. Each letter represents two downbeats:
All the Rage
A: π E E A B π x4
B: π A A B B π x4
Lisnagun
π G G C D π x8
Devilβs Dream
π D D A E π x8
Reign of Love
A: π Em Em C D π x4
B: π Em Em C C
D D C C π
June Apple
A: π A A G G
A A G D π
B: π A A G D π x4
Dancing Bear
π Em Em C C
D D B B π x4
can play B7 for B if thatβs easier
The Wren
A: π Em C D D π x4
B: π C C D D π x4
Haaplevese
A: π D D G A π x4
B: π D G A A π x4
Trip to Moscow
π Am Am C C
G G D D π x4
Road to Boston
A: π D D G A π x4
B: π D D G G
D D A A π x4
Colemanβs March
A: π D G D A
D G A A π
B: π D D D D
G G A A π
Sandy Boys
A: π A A A G π x4
B: π A A A A
G G G G π
Angeline the Baker
π D D D G
D D D A π x4
Liza Jane
A: π A A A D
A A E A π
B: π A A A D
E E E A π
Mairiβs Wedding
π G G C D π x8
Cluck Old Hen
A: π A A A G π x8
Cripple Creek
A: π A A D E π x8
Bile βEm Cabbage Down
π D G D A
D G A A π
Four of these are just βπ I I IV V πβ: a good first
guess for a major tune!
Iβll have these there in person as well on handouts.
Note that normally youβd be doing different chords each time through,
and theyβd been more complex (more).
