One point Sam Harris has made (can’t find the source atm) is that the Lebanese are in roughly the same position with respect to Israel as the Palestinians, but the Lebanese are predominately Christian rather than Muslim, and commit almost no terrorist acts. Harris argues that it’s like a lab experiment where you put two oppressed peoples next to each other, but with different religions and watch what happens.

Is there any reason to think Lebanese Christians are more similar to 14th century christians than to modern western christians?
