I decided I want to not see my karma or the karma of my comments and posts. I find that if anyone ever downvotes me it bothers me way more than it should, and while “well, stop letting it bother you” is a reasonable recommendation, it seems harder to implement for me than a software solution.
So, to that end, I figured out how the last posted version of the anti-kibitzer script works, and remodeled it to instead hide only my own karma (which took embarrassingly long to figure out, since my javascript skills can be best described with terms like “vague” and “barely existing”). If anyone wants it, here it is—you just need to open it with some editor (notepad works) and change all (7) instances of “Elithrion” in the Votepaths to your username. I tested and it works with both Greasemonkey for Firefox and Tampermonkey for Chrome.
The one thing that doesn’t work well is that the page loads and then maybe 0.1s later everything gets hidden, which does leave you with enough time to see your own karma sometimes if you’re looking at that spot, so if anyone knows how to fix that (or can confirm that it’s too hard to fix to bother with), that would be welcome. Also, let me know if you think there are enough people who might want it that I should make a discussion post for more visibility or something.
(I’m not particularly concerned that I will lose feedback on the quality of my comments and posts, since I will still see the karma others receive and be able to compare, and I would still be interested in having a positive reputation. As of this writing my positive karma rate is a little under 90%, and my plan is to check once in a while and change something if I see it fall too much.)
