Given all the recent discussion of contrived infinite torture scenarios, I’m curious to hear if anyone has reconsidered their opinion of my post on Dangerous Thoughts. I am specifically not interested in discussing the details or plausibility of said scenarios.
Yes. I previously believed that thinking a true statement could only be harmful by either leading to a false statement, stealing cognitive resources, or lowering confidence. I also believed that general rationality plus a few meditative tricks would be a sufficient and fully general defense against all such harms. I know better now.
