I appreciate you making an unambiguously bad post so that your unfinished thoughts can be critiqued. I look forward to the good post made from updating on comments.
Edit: this is not sarcasm and I mean it to be an actual statement of approval. Please actually do this more. This comes from a philosophy that one should post often enough to be heavily downvoted sometimes, to <?avoid confirmation bias?>
Calling it an “unambiguously bad post” definitely sounds like unhelpful trolling, not genuine approval. If you have similar “praise” in the future, I suggest you word it more carefully.
fair enough. I stand by the general region of sentiment, but perhaps I could have phrased the most detailed level of it better. shrug. I find most soares posts facepalm worthy, and I appreciate that he dressed his ideas up less so that disagreement can begin to engage more reasonably. I think he could be much more useful to the alignment field if he could write some consistently downvote-worthy posts for a bit: for example, here he revealed a deep misunderstanding of gradient descent. I think his polished posts have a tendency to expose the erroneous parts of his worldview less and I want to see him dare to expose those so we can get to the part where his critiques land already.
