Both sides are way less competent than we assumed. Humans are not even trying to keep the AI in a box. Bing chat is not even trying to pretend to be friendly.
We expected an intellectually fascinating conflict between intelligent and wise humans evaluating the AI, and the maybe-aligned maybe-unaligned AI using smart arguments why it should be released to rule the world.
What we got instead, is humans doing random shit, and AIs doing random shit.
Still, a reason for concern is that the AIs can get smarter, while I do not see a similar hope for humanity.
