If qualia are non physical , and they exist , Hofstadter’s physicalist model must be a failure. So why bring it up? I really don’t see what you are driving at.
I confused “sentience” with “sapience”. I suppose that having “sense” as a component should have tipped me off… That renders most of my responses inane.
I should also maybe not assume that David Cooper’s use of a term is the only way it’s ever been used. He’s using both sentience and qualia to mean something ontologically basic, but that’s not the only use. I’d phrase it as “subjective experience,” but they mean essentially the same thing, and they definitely exist. They’re just not fundamental.
