The post on dealing with diseases actually has come in handy for me, both in reducing self-blame for adhd and anxiety, and for talking to my dad about it, who definitely did not embrace the idea at first of treating them as disorders rather than excuses. Finally, existential risk. Is thinking seriously about existential risk a memetic hazard? This is an interesting and troubling idea. But I don’t think that it’s LessWrong consensus that you should choose a life you don’t enjoy.
If I could take a guess, I’d say that LessWrong has lowered your estimates that you can personally have a big effect on making your future brighter while fully enjoying the present. Is this accurate?
