I thought this was a great post, and am excited about reading more, but having just skimmed through the rest of the posts in the sequence, I was disappointed to find no discussion of UDASSA, which I personally find to be by far the most compelling theory of anthropics. Is there a reason for that? What do you think about UDASSA as an alternative to either SSA or SIA?
Glad you liked it :). I haven’t spent much time engaging with UDASSA — or with a lot other non-SIA/SSA anthropic theories — at this point, but UDASSA in particular is on my list to understand better. Here I wanted to start with the first-pass basics.
While I don’t expect my opinion to have much weight, I strongly second considering UDASSA over SIA/SSA. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about anthropics and came up with something very similar to UDASSA, without knowing that UDASSA existed.
